Context:

During a collaboration with Taller Maya, I visited a workshop producing traditional tortilla holders in the Yucatán Peninsula. Seeing hundreds of them stacked together prompted a simple question: What else could they become?

A handbag made from two tortilla-holder lids.

Taking a familiar Mexican silhouette out of the kitchen and into everyday wear.

Keeping the form, changing the function.

Rather than reinventing the tortilla holder, I used its existing silhouette as the starting point. Two lids became a handbag.
