Context:
During a collaboration with Taller Maya, I visited a workshop producing traditional tortilla holders in the Yucatán Peninsula. Seeing hundreds of them stacked together prompted a simple question: What else could they become?TORTILLERA
A handbag made from two tortilla-holder lids.
Taking a familiar Mexican silhouette out of the kitchen and into everyday wear.
Keeping the form, changing the function.
Rather than reinventing the tortilla holder, I used its existing silhouette as the starting point. Two lids became a handbag.
